Rules to abide by at the Penalty Box

Welcome to the New Penalty Box.

I have had several hockey forums the past five years and during that experience have developed a great set of rules in order to keep peace on the boards. Over the course of those years, we have modified the rules to make my forums a great place to post, free from flaming and insults.

I think it is important for everyone to just review our rules on occasion that have helped make this one of the best places to post about hockey and all our favorite sports.

Here are the rules I hope everyone will abide by to make this forum a pleasant experience:

1. Obscenity, personal attacks, flaming, ridicule, TAUNTING and obsessive profanity are NOT allowed. Attacks or posts putting race, creed, sex, religion or political beliefs in a bad light will also not be tolerated. Such behavior is referred to as "flaming" and is NOT allowed. Trolling* will also be forbidden. We wish to keep this forum clean -- no trash.

2. We are open to any and all suggestions on how to improve the Penalty Box. However, open criticism should be expressed to the forum host or moderators via email and not posted on the forum. Antagonizing other posters, moderators or even worse, the host, will not be tolerated and will result in banishment from the forum. Warning: Personally attacking the forum host is inviting banishment from the forum. Tread lightly if you want to stay in the good graces of the establishment. Also statements that put the forum, the host or moderator in a bad light will not be tolerated and such posts will be deleted. The following was adapted from the Fanhome moderator rules and now applies on DTP:

When you have a personal disagreement with how a moderator is doing his job, or policies of the Penalty Box, the disagreement should be kept PRIVATE by emailing the moderator or discussed in a chat to voice ones discontent. A Moderator should not bring up these criticisms on public forums (or criticize other moderators) and if they do, it is grounds for removal as moderator.

3. Accusations against other forum members of using multiple handles and/or pseudonyms and hacking are NOT allowed. Those who are hackers or make such accusations will be banned outright from the forum.

4. Posting links and images are allowed, as long as there is no obscenity in them. Also, posting a message from another message board will be quickly be deleted if it puts down any members of this forum or the forum itself.

5. This is a public forum. At my Delphi Penalty Box, we have had to make it a private forum because of past problems with hackers and flamers.

6. Masked profanity, #@*% can be used with discretion. Excessive masked profanity or barely hidden profanity like R#$@S will be viewed as profanity and will be deleted and the author will be warned.

7. Any picture that could be considered obscene by any member of the forum will be immediately deleted. Please keep it clean as we run a tight ship here. We try to keep this forum so that it is family orientated... a place where women and even children who are over 15 could visit without finding offensive material. 8. And finally, lets try to be good sports. Sure, we can get very emotional after a game, but remember, we are adults and lets try to act like adults. In essence, the key to keeping the peace on this board and to have fun is to be a good sport.

*Trolling - the posting of "baited" arguments, flames, taunting or personal attacks to a newsgroup, discussion list, or in email for no other purpose than to annoy someone or disrupt a discussion.

Since I opened my first forum in October 2000, there have been good times and bad times on my forums. Mostly there have been great times, but on occasion, I have had to step in and send players to the Penalty Box for breaking the rules.

When some have deliberately tried to belittle me and cause riot on the boards, I have done what Colin Campbell must do on occasions...suspend the player. Some have been banned for gross misconduct.

I have done my best to be fair and give others a second and sometimes a third chance. But just like in hockey, you have repeat offenders who will never change. To protect the rights of the other posters here and the peace on the board, I have to sometimes step in and rule with an iron fist. If these trolls are allowed to continue their baiting ways, it will lead to a complete collapse of the forum into anarchy. After all the time and effort (and money) spent here, I cannot allow that to happen.

Once again, I urge all the posters to review the rules of the forum. They are fair and allow this forum to continue without the fear of being flamed or worse. I try my best to be fair and open to any discussion. However, I will not allow someone to disrespect others and insult them.

Trolling, baiting, flaming are absolutely against this forum's rules. Please be respectful, not only to other posters but to me and my moderators.

It takes a lot of time to keep this place a decent forum to post on. I have gone the extra mile to be fair and give others a second chance if they do break a rule. However, my patience is limited. Posters who break the rules will be warned. But if the offenses against others continue, I will have no choice but to ban anyone who flames others and incites riot.

Please treat others how you yourself would want to be treated.

Thank you all for your cooperation.
